A agree it would be nice to have an update to Qing's and Badgwell's paper. I have a call in to Tom to see if he knows anyone who has, or currently, working on such an article. I will let you know as soon as I hear from him.
I think it is a real challenge for the author to acquire enough of the material to make a good assessment. In otherwords, I believe that most of the proprietary (ie the good stuff) aspects of the technology is hidden from the general public.
I also think that one of the most important factors right now is "who is the company that is most willing to spend money and effort in developing control software". I know several companies who are on different ends of the spectrum. My advice to any person who is evaluating the purchase of control sofware is "How much resource are you applying to development? What are the working on (ie productivity)?"
